I have nothing to say about the incident but how about drawing a series of character descriptions/concepts? I'm not sure if that sounds like a good idea for you, but doing that is often soothing for me. Whenever I feel like I have nothing else to draw, either I do that or start doodling whatever comes into my sight. Most of the time the results *cough* turn out to be just scraps (^_^;;）but I think it's better than just being stuck. Or, when I reaaallly don't feel up to doing even those, I just walk away and stop drawing whatsoever for the time being... and let things pass, wait for any further thoughts to come up later.

But don't be so upset about yourself. Copying(?) may not be the best thing, but it could be helpful as well. Experimenting with it is good. I always try out other people's idea. But maybe keeping the results to yourself would be better. Cheer up!
